IaaS vs PaaS vs SaaS

If you aren’t familiar with these abbreviations, these are the three main models of cloud technology. A while back we had defined Cloud Computing and gave a brief about it. In this blog we explain what they mean and essentially what they are.

IaaS or Infrastructure-as-a-Service is basically a virtual data centre. This is a cloud-hosted infrastructure that provides similar features to on-premises data storage hardware (i.e. hard disks, servers, etc.) With IaaS, users can access and control infrastructure with greater flexibility and efficiency.

PaaS or Platform-as-a-Service is a cloud-based platform for developers that provides the framework, software and tools to build applications. PaaS gives developers the proficiency of accessing pre-coded application components, sophisticated tools at affordable costs, and more options for multiple platforms. Plus, teams can collaborate on projects easily.

SaaS or Software-as-a-Service is the most commonly used cloud-based platform. Cloud application services allows users to use software that is available over the internet – skipping any additional time and effort to download and install. With SaaS, software is available and can be accessed from any device, anywhere.
